Cypress knees are actually the root of the cypress tree when they grow in the swamp. The roots grow above the water to get oxygen. They are cut off and kiln dried to knock off the bark. The result is a beautiful smooth surface that I paint on.
This particular one is of wild animals. The imagination takes over to “see” what will fit on each curve and dip of the wood.
Here you see many animals in detail as I could make it. Even the little parrots head was a knot raised from the surface.
No piece can be duplicated because no two pieces are ever the same.

This piece needs to be kept inside to preserve the beauty. Painted with acrylics and varnished. All are hand signed. -
